One major benefit of employing RFID transponders and barcode technology to identify equipment and machines is the comprehensive documentation of life cycles and parts. The hybrid ECCO+ mobile RFID and Barcode reader simplifies workflow, even in the most challenging conditions.
Compliance with service intervals and maintenance work on machines, equipment, and components is a basic prerequisite for trouble-free operations and maximum service life. Servicing and maintenance orders need to be carried out on plant equipment and machinery as quickly and efficiently as possible. Whether this involves service efficiency, production shutdowns, or dissatisfied users, every minute of downtime ultimately costs money. To speed problem solving and enable accurate record-keeping, machines and their components can be clearly identified and tracked using RFID and barcode technology. However, there is often little space on machines, equipment, and components for labeling. For this reason, very small RFID transponders can be used to provide unique identification in places that are difficult to access. To accelerate work processes, the right detection device is essential.
The ECCO+ RFID/Barcode Reader from FEIG ELECTRONICS combines superior performance with maximum practical usability. This compact and handy device detects HF or UHF RFID tags as well as barcodes. The ECCO+ can also read and rewrite RFID transponders. Data can be transmitted via Bluetooth or WLAN to a notebook, tablet PC, smartphone, Smart Glass, or via upload directly to a database. Because the ECCO+ has been specifically designed for use in harsh environments, it is almost completely impervious to shock and vibration and can be easily operated, even when wearing thick work gloves.
NFC-enabled smartphones are sometimes used to capture RFID tag information. In practical use, however, these devices have a number of disadvantages. For example, the smartphone display is sensitive to impact. Furthermore, detection generally cannot be triggered while wearing gloves or one must use special capacitive touch screen variants. This makes handling difficult in many areas of production. Additionally, small transponders, especially those attached to or surrounded by metal, often cannot be reliably detected by smartphones. Thanks to its compact design, the ECCO+ reader can be located closer to the transponders or barcodes when space is limited. Furthermore, the high-performance reader unit will detect and read RFID tags accurately in metallic environments.
Italy is forging ahead with the construction and expansion of their fiber-optic network. Fiber optic lines to individual buildings are bundled in distribution boxes. Inside these boxes, each paired cable and port are identified via RFID tags and thereby explicitly assigned to their buildings. This information is collected in a central system with the corresponding documentation. In the event of a fault, fitters are able to instantly identify and locate the cables to the affected building or fault area. For this purpose, all fitters and installation companies are equipped with ECCO+ devices from FEIG. In some cases, RFID data from the ECCO+ are transferred to a tablet via Bluetooth to be accessed by the fitters. The result is accelerated troubleshooting, fewer errors, and complete documentation of maintenance work.
