EV Charging

Ever wished you could streamline your daily routine and ditch the extra cards cluttering your wallet? Now you can! FEIG Electronics and HID Global, with the majority share of the employee badge market, have joined forces to transform workplace EV charging. By integrating HID’s OMNIKEY Secure Element technology into FEIG’s cVEND payment terminals, they’ve enabled using your employee badge to charge your electric vehicle.

Here’s how it works:

Forget juggling multiple cards and apps – our new technology lets you unlock and pay for EV charging using the same badge you use to access your workplace. Here’s a closer look at how it all comes together:

  • Your Badge Gets a Digital Wallet Upgrade: HID’s OMNIKEY Secure Element in SIM form factor supports secure RFID credentials for companies and business campuses. This integration offers compatibility with open-loop terminal systems from FEIG Electronics, enabling reading of closed-loop credentials to send data securely and directly to the OCPP backend, which, when authorized, can be used for EV charging services at an on-site company charging stations.
  • Where secure backend software links: The HID credential number is linked to a credit card or an account, and the user securely stores the card number or funds connected to the account/user. This means you can make secure, encrypted transactions without worrying about your data falling into the wrong hands.
  • Connecting the Dots: This solution integrates your existing workplace access control system with the EV charging infrastructure. Think of it as a bridge connecting two separate worlds. This integration creates a unified and convenient experience, eliminating the need for separate systems and cards.
  • Tap, Charge, Go: Charging your EV is as simple as tapping your badge at your workplace charging station. The system automatically authenticates your credentials, initiates the charging process, and applies discounts your employer offers. No more fumbling for cards, remembering PINs, or navigating through clunky apps. It’s quick, easy, and hassle-free.

This technology simplifies EV charging, making it an effortless part of your workday. It’s a win-win for employees and employers, offering convenience, security, and a boost toward a more sustainable future.
